Geese

It is interesting to compare these three mats. The mat at the top may date as early as 1920 and is hooked entirely with cotton. As the use of rayon and silk became more common (from 1928 onward) the craftwomen were able to blend colours and achieve a very sophisticated shading as in the mat in the middle. The last mat, at the bottom, shows the sophistication of a later mat, wonderfully detailed.
