Map of Newfoundland and Labrador
Showing
the Hospitals and Nursing stations of the Grenfell Mission
This map closely resembles a hand drawn mat which appeared the 1935 British Annual Report of the International Grenfell Association. St Anthony, the base of the Industrial efforts, lies to the left of the spouting whale. Flower's Cove is just to the southwst and St. John's, although not the site of a medical facility, is indicated by a small building on the lower right portion of the map on the island of Newfoundland. Going north on the Labrador coast, the four teepees roughly represent the area from Harrington Harbour to Mutton Bay. Next is the Forteau to Red Bay region along the Strait of Belle Isle and the shining lighthouse marks the port of Battle Harbour. The four igloos indicate North West River and Indian Harbour is just above at the top edge of the mat. The actual distances between settlements are vast and much of this area where the Grenfell Mission concentrated its efforts remains sparsely populated today.
Many of this popular design were hooked in four sizes and several variations.
